Furthermore, the Maitreyaparipṛcchā Sūtra states: "When a bodhisattva cultivates the ten wholesome courses of action, there are five marvelous things. What are the five? First, giving rise to a courageous mind; second, vigor; third, firmness; fourth, wisdom; and fifth, fruition (generated according to the name)." Furthermore, because bodhisattvas have firm vows, based on the arising of great benevolence and compassion, they benefit sentient beings and travel through the various worlds without weariness in their minds. What is called a bodhisattva's firm vow? The answer states: "There are five kinds of dharmas called a bodhisattva's firm vow: first, that which the Śrāvakayāna cannot shake; second, that which the Pratyekabuddhayāna cannot shake; third, that which the treatises of external paths cannot shake; fourth, that which all the Māras cannot shake; and fifth, that which does not naturally shake without cause and condition." Furthermore, there are five dharmas by which one knows a bodhisattva has a mind of great benevolence and compassion: first, in order to give sentient beings peace and happiness, they do not spare any requisites of life; second, they do not spare their own bodies; third, they do not protect or begrudge their lives; fourth, they cultivate all practices without waiting for a long time; and fifth, they have equal compassion for enemy and kin. Therefore, the bodhisattva's mind does not grow weary in the worlds. Having aroused bodhicitta for the sake of sentient beings, one who receives these bodhisattva ten wholesome [precepts] should also cultivate a firm mind and so forth.
