The person who is a bodhisattva treats enemies and kin as equals: he forgives even the murderer of his father, how much more other enemies! The mind of a bodhisattva is vast as mountains and oceans, capable of accommodating countless wrongdoers steeped in bad habits. One should contemplate in this manner: the bodhisattva softens his glare and harmonizes with the dust, serving as such a king and as ministers and subjects, universally practicing the ten wholesome actions, rescuing those in deep suffering to the utmost, and facing one another with loving-kindness and compassion. Acting like fathers and sons, like elder and younger brothers, gentle and forbearing, they all arouse bodhicitta, abide in pure precepts, and their conduct is immaculate. This is called a bodhisattva's undertaking actions from which no benefit is missing, and the great power of forbearance is able to destroy defilements.
