3.26

言菩薩者，信是身中實有菩薩種姓，堪受菩薩淨戒，名為菩薩，非已有證名為菩薩。

Calling them 'bodhisattva' means having faith that within this body there truly exists the bodhisattva gotra, being capable of receiving the pure precepts of a bodhisattva, and thus being named a 'bodhisattva'; it does not mean being named a 'bodhisattva' because of already having realizations.
