復次釋第一云：為攝自利三事故唯有六，一增進、二不染、三不倒，初四如次令四事進。一資生成就，由布施故；二自身成就，由持戒故；三眷屬成就，由於忍辱；四發起成就，由於精進，一切事業由此成故。第五禪定，能令煩惱不染，折伏煩惱故，由此力故。第六般若，令業不顛倒，一切所作如實知故。

Furthermore, explaining the first: it is only six in order to encompass three matters of self-benefit: first, progression; second, non-defilement; third, non-perversion. The first four in sequence cause progression in four matters: first, attainment of necessities of life, through dāna; second, attainment of one's own body, through keeping śīla; third, attainment of retinue, through kṣānti; fourth, attainment of initiation, through vīrya, because all undertakings are accomplished by this. The fifth, dhyāna, can keep one undefiled by afflictions, because it suppresses afflictions, by virtue of this power. The sixth, prajñā, prevents karma from being perverted, because one knows all that is done in accordance with reality.
