3.37

上來多分約始教說。已上諸門並是阿含門寄惑反顯位相差別。何以故？為護十地故；為令眾生於十地中離慢執故；位相甚深極難了知，寄惑顯位生淨信故。餘義準思可見。

The above has mostly been explained according to the initial teaching. The gates above are all the Agama gate's provisional assignment of afflictions to inversely reveal the distinctions among stage characteristics. Why is this? It is in order to protect the ten stages; to cause sentient beings to be free from pride and clinging with respect to the ten stages; and because the stage characteristics are extremely profound and difficult to understand, so that by provisionally assigning afflictions to reveal the stages, pure faith might be generated. The remaining points can be understood by inferring accordingly.
