Eighteenth, to reveal the two gnoses—the real and conventional—of each stage, twenty-two [types of] ignorance are provisionally assigned to reveal them. As the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra says: 'It is on the basis of these twenty-two kinds of foolishness and eleven heavy grossnesses that the various stages are established.' Since it says 'established', one knows it is a provisional assignment to reveal [the stages]. These meanings are explained at length in such texts as the Yogācārabhūmi, the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, and the Mahāyānasaṃgraha.
