七明生引二因義證唯有本識。若以因義顯之，成二種因：一者生因、二者引因。猶如人射，放箭為生因、彎弓為引因，乃至能生果報及以命終是其生因、枯喪相續是其引因。是二種因，離阿賴耶識即不得成，故唯有識。

Seventh, explaining the meaning of the two causes of generating and leading to prove that there is only the fundamental consciousness. If manifested through the meaning of cause, two kinds of causes are established: first, the generating cause; second, the leading cause. Just as when a person shoots an arrow, releasing the arrow is the generating cause, and drawing the bow is the leading cause; up to the point that being able to generate karmic retribution and the end of life is the generating cause, and the continuation of deterioration and loss is the leading cause. These two kinds of causes cannot be established apart from the ālayavijñāna; therefore, there is consciousness-only.
