The seven purities are: first, purity of precepts; second, purity of concentration; third, purity of view; fourth, purity by overcoming doubt; fifth, purity by knowledge and vision of path and non-path. These five have identical names in the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna, but the latter two have different names. In the Hīnayāna, the latter two are: first, purity of conduct; second, purity of the cessation of conduct; because that school inclines toward cessation, it states 'purity of the cessation of conduct' last. The Mahāyāna names are: first, purity of the cessation of conduct; second, supreme purity contemplating the factors of enlightenment; because this school relies on that cessation of conduct to give rise to higher and superior aspiration. As for the stages upon which they rely: if considered according to the Hīnayāna, precepts and concentration are prior to the path of seeing; the next three are on the path of seeing; the next one is on the path of cultivation; the next one is on the path of no-learning. In the Mahāyāna, discussing them across three stages: the cessation of conduct and conduct are on the path of cultivation, while the rest are all identical to the preceding. 'Purity' means purity because of superior progress and separation from defilement. This meaning applies to the Triyāna and the Hīnayāna; if designated by the Ekayāna, it belongs to the Ekayāna. Ekayāna purity is of ten kinds, as spoken in the 'Leaving the World' chapter. That ten are spoken is to reveal the immeasurable. The remaining meanings are as in the separate chapter.
