Regarding the eleven thick forests: first is the thick forest of the mental activities of sentient beings; second is the thick forest of afflictive activities; third is the thick forest of karmic activities; fourth is the thick forest of sensory activities; fifth is the thick forest of faithful activities; sixth is the thick forest of dispositional activities; seventh is the thick forest of profound-mind activities; eighth is the thick forest of latent-bias activities; ninth is the thick forest of birth activities; tenth is the thick forest of latent-impression activities; eleventh is the thick forest of differentiated activities of the three categories [of beings]. The first clause is general, and the remaining ten clauses are specific. The reason the first clause is mental activities is that the mind encompasses various meanings. The remaining ten are simply the various aspects of the mind's meaning, having no further differentiation. Why is this? Because they possess the meaning of the six characteristics. This doctrine belongs to the Ekayāna, because it is seen and heard by the Triyāna, Hīnayāna, humans, and devas. The rest of the doctrine is as in the separate chapter.
