1.117

夫玄宗渺漭，在緣起而可彰；至道希夷，入法界而無見。故標體開用，助道之品蓋多；就性明緣，差別之門不一。合則法界寂而無二，開乃緣起應而成三，動寂理融，方開體用。今就大況而言，略分十義：

Now, the profound purport is vast and boundless, yet it can be made manifest through pratītyasamutpāda; the ultimate Way is subtle and imperceptible, yet entering the dharmadhātu, it leaves nothing to be seen. Therefore, positing the essence and expanding the function, the categories aiding the Way are indeed many; turning to the nature to illuminate conditions, the doors of differentiation are not one. When contracted, the dharmadhātu is tranquil and non-dual; when expanded, pratītyasamutpāda responds and becomes threefold. When movement and stillness, principle and [phenomenon] blend, only then are essence and function expanded. Now speaking in general terms, they are briefly divided into ten meanings:
