新記云「如金作器，巧拙懸殊，即好醜現前也。」記次文云「一以貫之，唯金究竟，即心安如海也。」上句覆疏二相俱盡，下句覆疏煩惱不生。

The New Subcommentary says: "Like making vessels out of gold, skillful and clumsy differ greatly; this is 'beauty and ugliness appear before one'." The subsequent text of the subcommentary says: "Unifying them throughout, only gold is ultimate; this is 'the mind is as calm as the ocean'." The preceding line returns to elucidate "the two characteristics are both exhausted"; the following line returns to elucidate "defilements do not arise".
