Afflictions and karma entirely exhausted means being free of the delusive thoughts of the truth of origin (samudaya-satya). The three sufferings all eliminated means being free of the distress of the truth of suffering (duḥkha-satya). The emergence of uncontaminated wisdom, freed from entanglements and departed from obstacles, means that the truth of the path (mārga-satya) has already been cultivated. Liberation and freedom, permanently departing from the source of suffering, means that the truth of cessation (nirodha-satya) has already been realized. "Entering" is the name for thorough comprehension and awakening. Nirvāṇa is translated in meaning as complete quiescence. The sūtra says: "Transmigration is saṃsāra; immobility is named nirvāṇa." Now, the chapter on nirvāṇa is truly the profound storehouse of the Avataṃsaka; thus the Jin translation renders it "The Jewel King's Arising of Nature", and the Souxuan and Tanxuan fathomed its depths to search its hidden meanings. In the Tang translation it is "The Appearance of the Tathāgata", and the old commentary and the new subcommentary joined their fragrance and continued the flame. Moreover, in the kingdom of Goryeo these texts are still preserved intact and their transmission has not ceased, even though all these works originated in China. May later generations seek out teachers and look up to them with reverence, together requiting the heavy debt of virtue owed to Zhiyan, Xianshou, Chengguan, and Guifeng.
