緣起無性，一切皆如，方是大乘至極之談，故名為終。此亦有二：一終教，對前始教立名；二實教，對前分教立名。分，猶權也。始權而終實，以有顯實宗故。然終實二宗并始分二教，皆大乘漸門耳。

When conditioned arising lacks intrinsic nature and all is as such (tathatā), only then is it the ultimate discourse of the Great Vehicle; therefore it is named 'final.' This also has two aspects: first, the final teaching, named in contrast to the preceding initial teaching; second, the real teaching, named in contrast to the preceding fractional teaching. 'Fractional' is like expedient. The initial is expedient while the final is real, because of the school that reveals reality. However, both the final and real schools, together with the initial and fractional teachings, are all gradual approaches of the Great Vehicle.
