Now, when the dragon and elephant tread upon heaven and earth, they open the secret repository and preach the wondrous Dharma; when gnats and ants scurry about on clods of earth, they transmit the profound Dharma and turn the wheel of the Dharma. Patriarchs Dushun and Zhiyan already poured down the great Dharma from the blue heavens; Xiangxiang and Qingliang, worthy and virtuous masters, early discoursed on the bright lamp down to the Yellow Springs. Therefore, though the preaching of the Great Sage is transmitted as of a single flavor, the Avataṃsaka Ekayāna stands supreme among all teachings; though the virtues of the eminent scholars who propagated the sutra were alike, Xiangxiang alone excelled the other masters.
