The Contemplation states: First is the gate of principle conforming to phenomena: because phenomenal dharmas are illusory, their characteristics are entirely exhausted; because the nature of principle is real, its essence is entirely manifest. This means that phenomena have no separate phenomena—principle in its entirety constitutes phenomena. Therefore, although bodhisattvas look upon phenomena, this is precisely contemplating principle; yet these phenomena are said not to be identical with principle.
