《勝鬘》云「依如來藏故有生死，依如來藏故有涅槃。」《楞伽》亦說，如來藏造業受報。《起信論》云「依如來藏故有生滅心」等。〈問明品〉云「法性本無生，示現而有生」等。

The Śrīmālā says: "Depending on the tathāgatagarbha there is saṃsāra; depending on the tathāgatagarbha there is nirvāṇa." The Laṅkāvatāra also speaks of the tathāgatagarbha creating karma and receiving retribution. The Awakening of Faith says: "Depending on the tathāgatagarbha there is the mind of arising and ceasing," and so forth. The Chapter on Clarifying Queries says: "The dharmatā is originally unarisen, yet through manifestation it arises," and so forth.
