1.56

既非滅色存色，不即不離故即真空。空非色相，無遍計矣。依他緣起無性，無性真理即是圓成。古人云：「色去不留空，空非有邊住。」

Since it is neither extinguishing rūpa nor preserving rūpa, being neither identical nor separate, it is therefore true emptiness. Emptiness is not the characteristics of rūpa, so there is no imagined [nature]. Dependent origination lacks svabhāva, and the true principle devoid of svabhāva is precisely the consummate [nature]. The ancients said: "When rūpa departs, it leaves behind no emptiness; emptiness does not abide on the side of existence."
