The New Commentary on the Sūtra by Qingliang states: "It is entirely united as the One True Dharmadhātu, which means that completely encompassing the myriad existents is precisely the One Mind. Yet when the mind interpenetrates the myriad existents, it becomes four kinds of dharmadhātu: first, the dharmadhātu of phenomena—dhātu means 'delimitation', because each differentiated phenomenon has its boundaries; second, the dharmadhātu of principle—dhātu means 'nature', because the inexhaustible phenomenal dharmas share the same single nature; third, the dharmadhātu of the non-obstruction between principle and phenomena, possessing the meanings of both nature and delimitation, because nature and delimitation are unobstructed; fourth, the dharmadhātu of the non-obstruction between phenomena and phenomena, where all delimited phenomenal dharmas interpenetrate like the nature, infinitely layered and inexhaustible."
