In the Western Heavens, the Buddha's teaching is called a "thread" (sūtra), drawing on the meaning of stringing flowers together to make a garland so they are not lost or dropped. The Confucian canons of this land are called "jing" (warp), taking the meaning of the warp and weft weaving together; their principles are quite similar.
