因指見月，何妨時戲指端？悟教通真，豈礙隨流看轉？如有僧問藥山云：「和尚尋常誡人不令看經，何故却自看耶？」山云：「我要遮眼。」是此意也。

Pointing to the moon with a finger, what harm is there in occasionally playing with the fingertip? Awakening to the teaching and penetrating the real, how could following along to read and turn [the pages] be an obstacle? As when a monk asked Yaoshan: "The Venerable usually admonishes people not to read the scriptures; why do you read them yourself?" Yaoshan said: "I just want to screen my eyes." This is the meaning.
