Neither of the two extremes should be established at all;
The Middle Way need not be posited.
This verse: The Faxing (Dharma-nature) School refers to the Buddha preaching the Final and Sudden Sūtras and the like. The Perfect Enlightenment Sūtra says: "Existence and non-existence are both dispatched; this is called accord with pure enlightenment." Furthermore, in the assemblies of the Lotus and Nirvāṇa, scorning the small and praising the great, converging the provisional to return to the real, the three vehicles converge together into the One Buddha Vehicle, and the five natures all return to the One Buddha Nature, only then exhausting the ultimate doctrine of the Final and Real Great Vehicle. However, previously teachings were set up in accord with capacities to break attachments to annihilation and permanence; now both attachments have been dispatched, and the Middle Way is doubly interfused. Understanding that true emptiness is the emptiness of non-emptiness, and realizing that wondrous existence is the existence of non-existence, one can refrain from conceptualizing existence or non-existence, with wondrous understanding penetrating both. Having accomplished effortless effort, effort is decidedly not spent in vain.
