故國消息斷，石虎叫連宵。此頌前八門情盡見除，似木人石女。到此趣行解興，如能叫能歌，豈有情解於其間哉？

News from the old country is cut off; / The stone tiger cries out night after night.
This verse [means that] through the previous eight gates, sentiments are exhausted and views eliminated, like a wooden man and a stone woman. Arriving here, the understanding that proceeds to practice arises, like being able to cry out and sing—how could there be sentimental understanding in their midst?
