2.276

"According with conditions is unchanging; / Unchanging, it yet accords with conditions."
This verse says that "the old returns to new" means the entire host becomes the companion, precisely revealing the companion phenomenon of one and many in this gate. It is like the dispersed noble ones such as Fenggan, Wanhui, Hanshan, and Shide: having settled that side of the real ground of true reality, they return to the gate of establishing conversion, manifesting forms and deportment, connecting with beings to benefit lives and propagating the noble path. Daily renewed in according with conditions, entirely becoming companions, it is therefore said: "returns to new."
