2.81

斫倒那邊無影樹，却來火裏又抽枝。此頌隨緣人也。謂自古賢聖了證真理，由悲故迴入塵勞，由智故方便利物，宗門中喚作異類中人也。丹霞云「戴角披毛異類身」，是此意也。

Chopping down the shadowless tree over there, / Coming back into the fire to put out branches again. This verse praises the person who accords with conditions. It means that from ancient times, the wise and sagely, having understood and realized true principle, return into worldly dust out of compassion and expediently benefit beings out of wisdom. In the lineage schools this is called "a person among different species." Danxia said: "The body of different species, carrying horns and wearing fur." This is the meaning.
