Sweeping away the film of ignorance, flashing forth the original pure brilliance. This gāthā addresses the illness of ordinary beings and heterodox paths who deny cause and effect. Because their minds wander outside the Path, they are called 'heterodox paths'. It means those ordinary beings do not know that the three realms are mind-only and that all forms arise from karma; cause and effect are unceasing, and birth and death continue in succession. They calculate and cling, saying: 'All things exist spontaneously without cause; gathering, they become existent, and dispersing, they become non-existent; the spirit perishes and the body separates, and the faculties have no future retribution.' The Commentary says: 'The nihilistic extinction of the heterodox paths returns to great space.' Once these two kinds of people receive the power of the Dharma and turn their minds, the troops will certainly move as the seal turns.
