2.266

"A single sound pervades and enters everyone's ears; / Everyone's ears are within the single sound."
The meaning is: Although the preceding eight gates already subsume the sixth and seventh gates—able to pervade and able to accommodate, able to include and able to enter, the two-fold host phenomenon of one and many—now this gate subsumes that which is pervaded and accommodated, that which is included and entered, the two-fold companion phenomenon. It concurrently includes remaining phenomena into other phenomena; therefore, ordinary and noble are intermingled, cause and effect mutually penetrate, the entire host becomes the companion, and each mutually exists within the other.
