法記云：上云因果不同乃至其義云何等者，起此問意。前云：約修行方便現因果不同，而次又云：因果兩位法性家內真實德用性在中道，故未知此意，如是問也。問：前印相終更無別問，何故此中釋字相已更復設此問答耶？答：其印道則隨字相而畫故，委釋字相則可解印相故也。

Fa's Record says: Regarding 'Above it was said that cause and effect are different… (down to) …what is its meaning? and so forth': the intention of raising this question is that previously it said, 'in terms of the upāya of cultivation, it manifests differences in cause and effect,' but next it said, 'the two stages of cause and effect are real virtues and functions within the house of dharmatā, their nature residing in the Middle Way.' Therefore, not knowing this intention, this question was asked. Question: At the conclusion of the previous aspects of the seal there was no other question; why after explaining the aspects of the characters here is this question-and-answer set up once again? Answer: Because the pathway of the seal is drawn following the aspects of the characters, if one explains the aspects of the characters in detail, the aspects of the seal can be understood.
