法記云：諸法各異，住自如故，一如多如如如相不可得者，約五十四角故云如如而不可分。此是第一角如，此是第二角如等故，云相不可得。約一角時即約五十四角故，云如如。約第二角亦如是也。至此竟答前問，上云：因果不同而一家實德性在中道，未知所由之義。

Fa's Record states: Regarding "All phenomena are distinct, abiding in their own suchness, therefore one suchness, many suchnesses, and the characteristics of suchness after suchness cannot be apprehended": in terms of the fifty-four corners, it says "suchness after suchness" yet they cannot be differentiated. Because one says, "This is the suchness of the first corner," "This is the suchness of the second corner," and so forth, it says "characteristics cannot be apprehended." When referring to one corner, it is precisely referring to fifty-four corners; therefore it says "suchness after suchness." The same applies when referring to the second corner. Up to here completes the answer to the previous question, which stated above: "Causes and effects are not the same, yet the true virtuous nature of the single school resides in the middle way, whose underlying reason was not known."
