Another record says: The seven subtle [dusts] are window-wandering dust, sheep-hair dust, hare-hair dust, ox-hair dust, gold dust, water dust, and ultimate atom. Explanation: 'Window-wandering dust' wanders in the sunlight through a window aperture. 'Sheep-hair dust': because window-wandering dust is divided into seven parts, it rests only on the tip of a sheep's hair. 'Hare-hair dust': because sheep-hair dust is divided into seven, it does not rest on a sheep's hair, but rests only on the tip of a hare's hair. 'Ox-hair dust': because hare-hair dust is divided into seven, it rests only on the tip of a hair under an ox's belly. Dividing this into seven penetrates through gold and emerges, unimpeded by gold. Dividing this into seven penetrates through water, unable to be moistened by water. Dividing this into seven is the ultimate atom. Because each of these dusts generates offspring, they are called the seven mother dusts. In the initial teaching, this ultimate atom is divided and analyzed over three incalculable eons. In terms of this dust of the initial teaching, it is divided and analyzed over incalculable eons in the final teaching. When reaching the One Vehicle, it is divided and analyzed over eons as numerous as the dust motes of two Buddha-worlds, and only when reaching the most subtle limit does it become the ultimate atom of the One Vehicle.
