Zhen's Record states: Regarding 'imagined without marks, dependent without arising, and up to: outside the three dharmas there are no other realization and teaching': directly discerning the realization and teaching of the One Vehicle is the most difficult; therefore, relying on the three natures discussed in that mature teaching, this meaning is shown. Within this single 'imagined without marks', there are the gate of understanding and the gate of practice. The gate of understanding is departing from the emotional existence of the imagined and entering the apparent existence of the dependent, and so forth. The gate of practice is that emotional existence is itself the stage of truth. Therefore Kangzang said: 'Conditions have no separate conditions, for substance exhausts conditions; hence differentiated pratītyasamutpāda is itself the profound ocean of lands.'
