法記云：須解立教所由者，前雖已現證教中道及三性外無三無性之道理，若不解其立教所由，則不得知此是熟教三性三無性之中道，此是一乘之中道故也。又熟教中雖云遣三性現三無性，但融其相令歸真性耳。一乘方云體融真故，即此在前露柱名相正是海印究竟法體，故云證教兩法常在中道。是故凡於所聞，慎勿如言取義，須解所由也。

Fa's Record states: Regarding 'one must understand the reason for establishing the teaching': although the middle way of realization and teaching, and the principle that outside the three natures there are no three non-natures, have previously been revealed, if one does not understand the reason for establishing the teaching, one will not be able to know: this is the middle way of the three natures and three non-natures of the mature teaching, and this is the middle way of the One Vehicle. Furthermore, although in the mature teaching it is said that dismissing the three natures reveals the three non-natures, it only interfuses their marks, causing them to return to the true nature. The One Vehicle first says that substance interfuses the true; therefore, these very names and marks of the exposed pillar in front are precisely the ultimate essential substance of phenomena of the ocean seal; hence it is said that the two dharmas of realization and teaching are constantly in the middle way. Therefore, in whatever one hears, one must be cautious not to take the meaning according to the words; one must understand the reason.
