In the final years of the Zhenguan reign era, I cast aside worldly presence in the mountain forests, lasting through the second year of the Xianqing reign era for twelve years. Having reached the age of sixty, decaying infirmities following one after another, awaiting death morning and evening, I have no place in the world. Yet, not considering myself mediocre and shallow, having once participated in what I had seen and heard, I have ventured to unfold and demonstrate this in order to repay future benevolence. May those who encounter this later examine its far-reaching intentions, and I pray that you will not let emotional bias encumber the text. In the fourth year of the Xianqing era, once again at Ximing Monastery, I further refined and polished it. Although the writing does not match the thought, its outlines can be understood, intended ultimately for those of later generations who, donning [the robes], would rise above the secular. Otherwise, it would merely be empty words. Śramaṇa Shi Daoxuan of Wuxing in the Zhongnan Mountains recorded its standards, utensils, and seasonal sequences.
