These ten determinations are provisionally laid out in rough outline, yet under the sixth section the threads are not single. In the Vinaya, all items are listed together and as a rule all are surrendered to the saṅgha; later, a few items are mentioned separately to distinguish the characteristics of light property. This means that for categories of property there are also two determinations; light and heavy can be known according to principle, and traditional transmissions determining them according to principle are also one way of assistance. However, searching quickly in the Vinaya text, collateral citations intersect, so that later sharp minds and earlier masters still harbored anxieties; for beginners who are submerged, doubts and hindrances are difficult, and ultimately do not help in timely needs, hence I have pruned them. If one desires to understand the grounds of conditions, as fully clarified below, both delusion and awakening will be cleared, and beginning and end will both be illuminated. Therefore, earlier [parts] follow the root Vinaya as the Buddha determined it, taking categories by practical matters and appending lateral citations. Appraising according to affairs will suffice as a clear mirror.
