Among the earthenware items above, the Vinaya text itself makes two distinctions. The Buddha permitted keeping two cauldrons, two pitchers, four lids, and four ladles, determining heavy and light according to dou capacity. As for bath-powder vessels, whether made of copper, brass, twisted ramie, tree bark, bone, or gourd: since they are requisites constantly needed for washing and pātra implements, according to their measure they are classified as light property. If they are heavy, large, and hard to hold, or light and small but fixed in one place, they are classified as heavy property. Although cauldrons and pitchers are permitted, they are only for necessary provisions; if there are various worldly vessels among them, they are not qualified to be light property.
