余以亡物輕重抑斷寔難，諸師傳授指訂非據。所以博觀中表，逖問嘉猷，獲本眾多，口斷非一，覈其精瞻，程節者希。余以不敏，敢援前傑，輒抽直筆，隨事殺青，言複義重，望光修撰。

I considered that determining the light and heavy status of a deceased monastic's property is truly difficult, and the guidance transmitted by various masters lacked solid grounds. For this reason, I looked widely at home and abroad, inquiring far and wide for excellent counsels. Having obtained numerous manuscripts, their spoken judgments were not uniform; yet when examining their precision and depth, few exercised proper standard and measure. Being untalented, I have dared to draw upon earlier luminaries, straightforwardly taking up the brush to commit this to paper according to each matter. Though the wording may be repetitive and the principles dense, I hope it will shed light upon this compilation.
