2.39

二者，鉢器。謂鉢多羅（此單翻為鉢也）。律本云，自今應持鉢行，用鐵泥作，應量受。《僧祇》云，此恒沙佛標誌。經中名為應器也。

The second is the pātra vessel: namely the pātra (here simply translated as 'bowl'). The root Vinaya states: "From now on, you must carry a pātra when traveling; make it of iron or clay, and receive it in accordance with measure." The Mahāsāṃghika states: "This is the emblem of Buddhas numerous as the sands of the Ganges." In the sūtras, it is named the 'vessel in accordance [with measure]'.
