"Practicing the four reliances is clearly explained in the Vinaya, and is mutually relied upon and used by practitioners of the three vehicles. The so-called rag robes, almsfood, [dwelling under] trees, and putrid medicine each have permissions and prohibitions, as are commonly transmitted. The remaining four kinds of black seals and four kinds of broad expositions are revealed elsewhere, and so are not fully recorded here."
