These last two bows are tranquil yet able to penetrate, meritorious yet walking the Path, thereby causing cessation and contemplation to travel together, and the ultimate and conventional to operate side by side. The mind is thus empty and vast, while the body indeed accumulates conditions; for practice and study while in the ordinary stage, its aspects reach up to this. Beyond this, one does not go; the deluded practices of base fools are not worth inquiring into. However, because those who follow marks mostly can only understand for themselves, the text says: 'To ordinary beings of shallow understanding, who are deeply attached to the five desires and cling to the view of self, do not speak this sūtra.' For if they hear it and do not understand, they will doubly increase their slander; it would be better if they did not hear it and merely practiced ordinary, mundane merits.
