As the Sūtra on the Bodhisattva's Original Deeds states: 'Even if countless hundreds of millions of people became pratyekabuddhas, and someone provided them with the four requisites for a hundred years, their merit would be exceedingly great; yet it does not equal someone who, with a joyful mind, uses a single four-line verse to praise the Tathāgata's immeasurable merit.' Also as the Sujāta Sūtra states: 'Offering the treasures of the four continents to the Buddha, and praising the Tathāgata with a reverent mind—these two merits are equal and without distinction.' The Great Compassion Sūtra states: 'If one recites the Buddha's name even once, saying "Namo Buddha," by this good root one enters the realm of nirvāṇa, which is inexhaustible.'
