The Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra states: 'If someone cultivates benevolence, when relinquishing their life, they will see the Buddhas of the ten directions rubbing their crown with their hands; touched by their hands, their mind will be peaceful and joyful, and they will immediately attain rebirth in a pure Buddha land.' I have observed that people in the world who are gentle in nature and conduct face death in peace, ease, and sovereignty; those whose basic nature is coarse and neglectful are bewildered and terrified at the end of life, their eyesight failing first, losing their voice and unable to speak. Even if there are wholesome teachings, they cannot comprehend them. Judging directly from events, practicing benevolence is supreme. If one now neglects it, there is only evil karma; without a mind of benevolence and compassion, one must fall into the evil destinies.
