"In the time of King Mu of the Zhou, this disciple was born in the First Heaven; originally I was a deva from the era of Kāśyapa Buddha. In order to facilitate conversion, I temporarily manifested during the Zhou. Regarding your question about the Gaosi Terrace west of the capital: originally, this was where Kāśyapa Buddha held his third assembly to preach the Dharma and liberate people. Down to the time of King Mu, Mañjuśrī and Maudgalyāyana came to transform [the realm]; King Mu followed them—these were precisely the 'transformed persons' referred to in the Liezi. The transformed persons showed King Mu that the Gaosi Terrace was where Kāśyapa Buddha had preached the Dharma, and so he constructed the Three Assemblies Sanctuary there.
