He replied, "Each has its reason. This disciple was reborn in heaven during the time of Jie of Xia and fully witnessed the Buddha's conferring of transformation. Furthermore, the Buddha has three bodies. The dharmakāya and saṃbhogakāya are not seen by mortals, but only transform those who have ascended the bhūmis and above. It is only the nirmāṇakāya that universally reaches the three-thousand-fold hundred koṭis of worlds. Thus there are a hundred koṭis of Śākyamunis who, in accordance with what beings resonate with, appear earlier or later without fixity. Whether at the end of the Yin or under Duke Zhuang of Lu, all are within the thousands of devas; before and after, all transmit a single transformation. The resonance and perception occur earlier or later according to the capacity [of beings], while the dharmakāya and saṃbhogakāya remain ever calm and clear; there is no need for doubt."
