Next to the north is the Great Buddha Hall, whose height and breadth outshine and overpower all other courtyards. Flying corridors slope down on both sides, and the eaves hang in the open air. Flanking halls stand to the east and west. Grand trees provide magnificent adornment, flourishing constantly in winter and summer, their heavy shade shielding out the sun. Under the eaves inside the hall, within the corners, are two Fragrant Mountains, which were built in ancient times by the nāgarāja Vibhakāra. On the day they were first completed, their height was just that of Mount Gandhamādana (half of the mountain king). What ordinary people see is only one zhang and two chi high. Their shape is completely identical to Mount Sumeru from the waist down, entirely made of gold and silver. Atop them are large ponds with animal heads on four sides, identical in form to Lake Anavatapta. On the mountains are forests; as kings of flowering and fruiting mountains, adorned on all four sides, they are all made of the four jewels. The mountain colors feature many trees such as red sandalwood, ox-head [sandalwood], and aloeswood. The flowers are as large as chariot wheels, but ordinary people who see them find them only as large as coins. On the six fast days, the flowers all bloom. The water flows down to the ground, so that the mountain is completely unseen, and all the trees are able to expound the Dharma. Beneath the mountains, nine dragons constantly exhale fragrant clouds and emit clean, sweet-smelling water. On the six fast days, if the sick drink it, there is none who is not instantly cured. Sometimes, the Tathāgata comes to assemble with the Buddhas of the ten directions to expound the Dharma, inspiring a thousand million Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and the eight classes of devas and nāgas to all enter the mountains. Among the śrāvaka assembly, the ten great disciples also gain entry. The remaining details are impossible to recount fully.
