To the northeast of the Bamboo and Vegetable Garden is a separate courtyard called the Place for Removing Robes, Carriages, and Horses. Its gate opens to the north and connects to the great lane. It is where the kings of various states remove their robes, carriages, and horses; the garden halls stretch continuously, all made of stone, fashioned by the Lord of Devas. Whenever a king arrived, he came from the east gate of the lane to this courtyard, took off his royal robes, swords, shoes, and diverse regalia, and his carriages, horses, and attendants all stayed here; only then did he exit to the west and enter the monastery courtyards.
