The Shichao's text on the "precept on the Buddha's robe" says: "The Buddha's body was double that of a human. The Buddha was sixteen chi tall, while a human is eight chi." The Buddha's robe was eighteen chi in length by the Ji-Zhou chi, and twelve chi in width; an ordinary person's was nine chi by six chi. (Those who insist on the maximum measure claim that the Buddha's robe was double that of a human's six hastas, which would be twenty-one chi and six cun. This is because they have not read this text!) However, people in the Buddha's time were mostly grand and tall in body; following the previous measurements was sufficient to cover their bodily frames. Today, in the age of decline, a human body at its greatest does not exceed six chi. Yet robes are twelve chi in length, often exceeding it, while when considering their width, it does not reach five chi. With the front hanging down and dragging past the knees, every step incurs a duṣkṛta. Truly, the upside-down nature [of this] can be seen here!
