初、明衣界。《律》云：「若人、衣異處越宿，得捨墮罪。此衣須捨懺。」（言墮罪者，墮眾合地獄一晝夜，當人間歲數十四億四十千歲。）《律》明離護，竝約界論。界有多別，大略分二：

First, explaining the robe-boundary. The Vinaya states: "If a person and his robes are in different places and spend the night apart, he incurs a naiḥsargika-prāyaścittika offense. This robe must be forfeited and confessed." (Speaking of a "falling" offense, one falls into the Saṃghāta hell for one day and night, which corresponds to 1,440,000,000 years in the human realm.)
