歷觀經論，遍覽僧史，乃知聖賢踵跡，華竺同風；今則偏競學宗，強分彼此。且削髮既無殊態，染衣何苦分宗？負識高流，一為詳鑑。況大小乘教，竝廣明袈裟功德，願信教佛子依而奉行。

Looking through the sūtras and treatises, and surveying the histories of the Saṅgha, one realizes that the sages and worthies followed in one another's footsteps, and China and India shared the same style. Today, however, people competitively promote their own traditions and arbitrarily distinguish between self and other. Now, since shaving the head shows no difference in appearance, why bitterly divide traditions over dyeing the robes? May those of superior understanding closely examine this! Moreover, the teachings of both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna extensively clarify the virtues of the kāṣāya; I hope that disciples of the Buddha who believe in the teaching will follow and practice them accordingly.
