復有一鬼，白目連言：「我腹極大、咽喉如針，窮年卒歲不得飲食。何罪所致？」目連答言：「汝前世時作聚落主，自恃豪貴飲酒縱橫，輕欺他人，奪其飲食、飢困一切，以是因緣故獲斯罪。此是華報，果在地獄。」

There was another ghost who said to Maudgalyāyana: “My belly is huge and my throat is like a needle; all year round from beginning to end I get nothing to eat or drink. What sin caused this?”
Maudgalyāyana answered, saying: “In your past life, you were a village chieftain. Relying on your nobility and wealth, you drank alcohol and acted recklessly, belittling and cheating others, robbing them of their food and drink, and starving everyone. Because of these causes and conditions, you incurred this retribution. This is the flower retribution; the fruit will be in hell.”
