Casting their five limbs to the ground, let each person think in mind: 'We look up and pray that all the Three Jewels of the ten directions, through the power of compassion and loving-kindness, through the power of original vows, through the power of great supernatural transformations, through the power of the inconceivable, through the power of immeasurable sovereign mastery, through the power of delivering sentient beings, through the power of shielding and protecting sentient beings, and through the power of consoling sentient beings, will cause all sentient beings to awaken and know. So-and-so and the others today take refuge in the Three Jewels on their behalf. By the power of this merit, may all sentient beings each obtain what they wish. If they are among the devas and immortal ṛṣis, may their outflows be exhausted; if they are among the asuras, may they abandon the habit of haughtiness; if they are in the human path, may they be free from all suffering; if they are in the hells, hungry ghosts, or animal destinies, may they immediately gain release. Furthermore, today, whether they have heard the names of the Three Jewels or have not heard them, through the Buddha’s supernatural power, may all sentient beings attain full liberation, ultimately achieve unexcelled bodhi, and together with all bodhisattvas ascend to samyaksambodhi.' (One prostration).
