The ordinary person of the nine bondages is unaware and unknowing, like the blind child of a wealthy person sitting in a treasure house, seeing nothing at all; stumbling and obstructed as he moves about, he is injured by the treasures. The two vehicles are afflicted by a fever, thinking that the precious jewels are ghosts, tigers, dragons, and serpents, abandoning them and fleeing, wandering in hardship for more than fifty years. Although bondage and liberation differ, both are destitute of the Tathāgata's unsurpassed, precious treasure. Arising great compassionate vows, eradicating suffering and bestowing happiness—this is generating the true aspiration for bodhi that is neither bondage nor liberation, and the meaning of revealing the correct is made clear.
